Analysis – Failed to win in six flat starts, though he may have been inconvenienced by a slower surface on a few of them with his better efforts coming on quick ground. He made an encouraging start to life over hurdles when beaten just over a length by subsequent Triumph Hurdle Trial winner Nelson’s River and the form of his latest fourth at Kempton has been boosted by the third (twice) and sixth winning since. He is receiving weight from his market rivals and Alan King, who has been in good form, has won two of the last three runnings of this contest. The quicker ground is likely to suit better and looks overpriced in my opinion.

Analysis – Won first three completed starts over fences (all in handicaps) just over two years ago, including in a class 2 at Wetherby, and he added another win in that grade when fending off both Jameson and the 152-rated O O Seven over this trip at Newbury from a 2lb higher mark. Has had little racing since then but if coming on for reappearance after 287-days off now dropping down into class 3 company (won when last seen in this grade), he should go close with Harry Skelton favouring this eight-year old over two stablemates.

Analysis – Twice a winner over the larger obstacles which included off this mark of 126 over this marathon trip at Perth last April. He was a good fifth in the X-Country behind Tiger Roll off level weights at the festival last year and has ran two reasonably good races so far this season over 3m from higher marks and the form of his Newbury fifth has taken a few boosts with winner Mister Malarky winning a Grade 2 at the weekend and Carlos Du Fruitier also winning since. The ground will suit, handicapped to go close and the step back up in trip looks a good move, very open race but could outrun his lengthy odds.

Analysis – Made good headway over a shorter trip here in early December and was mounting his challenge when coming to grief at the second last and unseating his rider but made amends when staying on from off the pace to score at Wincanton over 2m4f and he wasn’t stopping at the line so the step up to 3m looks likely to suit as he’s bred to stay longer trips also. He’s up just the 2lb for that success and still unexposed in this sphere on fourth chase start could well double up.
