Analysis – Very-lightly raced nine-year old having only his sixteenth start (tenth in a handicap). He’s 5lb above his highest winning mark of 92 but form figures around this 2m4f trip reads 1-4-1-4-3 with best efforts coming on good ground so providing it stays dry tomorrow he’ll be fine in regards ground/trip. The booking of the champ Richard Johnson is an eyebrow raiser as he’s only finished outside the front four once from six rides for trainer Mark Usher (winning once) and a recent second beaten a half-length over a slightly shorter trip brings him into this in a bit of form. Could go well.

Analysis – Despite ninth in a recent York handicap he was drawn right out wide so you’d have to say that was a decent effort. Prior to that the re-opposing Jabbaar finished ahead of him on seasonal reappearance at Thirsk but David O’Meara’s charge is better off at the weights here and should get closer. He won twice and finished a close second on three runs around this time last year on a various ground and this five-year old has been dropped to a mark now 2lb lower than when winning a higher grade handicap at Pontefract on soft. He’s versatile ground wise though I’d imagine slight ease in the conditions would be more suitable but looks worthy of a bet against a short-priced favourite.
