It’s a weak looking handicap to end the Chepstow card today, but I feel Jane Williams’ seven-year-old looks one of the more likely winners. Her gelding put two poor runs behind him with a couple of decent efforts in defeat over the past month. The first of those was when beaten three-quarters-of-a-length over the extended 2m at Bangor on soft ground, before not seeing out the extended 3m at Doncaster last week off this mark, having travelled well and was still leading at 2 out before weakening before the last into a respectable fourth. Both those runs came with an amateur jockey on board, so the booking of regular pilot Chester Williams looks positive and also the drop in trip to the extended 2m3f should be much more to his liking. He is a previous distance winner, on New Year’s Eve back in 2020 at Warwick, scoring by seven-lengths on soft ground off only a 3lb lower mark and I think with conditions to suit I’d be disappointed if he doesn’t play a leading role here.
